Young Citizens celebrates our 30th birthday this year, and to mark the occasion we are launching an appeal to raise £30,000 to support the work that we do for young people.
Since we were founded in 1989, we have helped generations of children and young people become active citizens. Millions of young people have benefited from our work over the past 30 years – helping them understand the law, their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and how to engage in democratic society through social action.
Yet as we celebrate our 30th birthday, in many ways we feel new. That’s not just about our name change – from the Citizenship Foundation to Young Citizens. It’s also about the task we face. Each era brings fresh challenges, and children and young people are currently faced with an array of them: the threats to democracy, fake news, growing inequality, and the loss of trust in society. At Young Citizens we are rising to the challenge, by pledging to do all we can to help even more young people navigate their way to become active citizens.
For the past thirty years we’ve relied on a the generosity of thousands of volunteers, donors and advocates to help make our unique impact to society. Without your help we would not be able to provide our youngest citizens with the skills and inspiration to make a positive contribution to their communities.
