The Mock Trial Competitions return for the 2024-25 academic year – and state secondary schools and sixth-form colleges are invited to take part!
Established in 1991, the Mock Trial Competitions offer students an immersive introduction to the legal justice system, helping them understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives.
Schools will receive access to a comprehensive resource pack, including specially written criminal cases, to help their student teams prepare legal arguments.
Teams then go head-to-head with other schools at a regional heat to prosecute and defend the cases, with winning teams progressing to a National (Bar) or Regional (Magistrates’) Final.
The impact of mock trials
A student taking part last year said: “I was able to hone a range of skills in all parts of the competition that I will now be able to apply in other areas of not just school, but life.”
A teacher said: “The most rewarding experience of my career so far. To see my students step up and support each other in a challenging and unfamiliar environment was invaluable.”
Hear what Joe, an aspiring barrister in Year 11 at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, had to say about his mock trials experience.
