The Big Legal Lesson is back – but with a new date of February 2025!
The Big Legal Lesson is Young Citizens’ annual campaign to start a conversation about rights, responsibilities and the rule of law in the classroom.
This year, we’re calling on all schools and sixth-forms in England and Wales to deliver a lesson about the law during February 2025. Suitable for all learners aged from 5 to 18, the free teaching resources offer an accessible introduction to the law.
Last year, schools introduced the law to over 100,000 children and young people. Can you help us reach even more? Register your interest to take part in February 2025.

Why take part in The Big Legal Lesson?
- Nearly two-thirds of the UK don’t know their basic legal rights – we need more legal education in schools to boost the nation’s legal literacy.
- It’s free to create a Young Citizens account and download the resources. At the same time, you will gain access to a whole range of free and flexible citizenship teaching resources on our website.
- It helps you teach the rule of law (one of the fundamental British values) and meet the PSHE and SMSC curriculum – all whilst promoting your pupils’ oracy, critical thinking and empathy skills.
- After The Big Legal Lesson, 97% of teachers agreed their learners had better understanding of the rule of law and how it applies to their lives, and 100% would recommend it to a colleague.
